In the whirlwind of American politics, a clear picture is emerging: over the past two years, the Trump administration has repeatedly faced significant legal and policy pushback. From court verdicts to blocked executive orders, a series of defeats highlight the challenges of passing an agenda against staunch opposition. Let’s break down some of the most notable cases.

Courts Say “No” to Key Policies

The judiciary has been a major player in this pushback. Federal courts have stepped in to block several key initiatives. An executive order to limit birthright citizenship was preliminarily enjoined in multiple lawsuits. Similarly, efforts to roll back environmental protections, such as allowing commercial fishing in a protected marine monument, have been overturned by legal challenges.

The Tariff Troubles

A central part of the administration’s platform has been its use of tariffs. However, this has been met with both economic and legal resistance. The U.S. Court of International Trade ruled that some of the tariffs under the IEEPA were illegal, demonstrating the legal vulnerability of this approach.
